COVID-19 Pandemic - online yoga teaching and the start of our courses
A challenge arose for Robin when she was traveling in Australia to visit her dad's side of the family, as the pandemic hit. Unable to return to the UK, she had to adapt, which became a true testament to how her yoga practice had prepared her to handle life's unexpected turns. With the help of Active Gloucestershire, who funded her new virtual yoga classes for teens, Robin was able to continue teaching online. These classes were promoted by schools in Gloucestershire.
Robin, along with Lucy and Flo, piloted the "Wellbeing Ambassador Course for Educators," guiding 20 teachers and teaching assistants through a wellbeing course to share yoga in their classrooms. Following the success of her online teen yoga classes, Gloucestershire Healthy Living and Learning (GHLL) and Active Gloucestershire asked Robin to develop the peer-to-peer course she had created a year earlier at Bournside School, but this time for teachers and TAs. She wrote a training manual and, with Flo Cross and Lucy Kingsley, launched their first fully funded pilot.
At the same time, Robin and her boyfriend Simon (whom she met in Australia) decided to embark on an 8-month road trip. What started as a two-month journey turned into an extended adventure. While Robin continued teaching yoga and delivering online courses, Simon used his carpentry skills to create a mobile studio on the side of his Toyota Hilux Ute, allowing them to teach and travel around Australia.
