Meet Lucy

Summary of yoga background:

Cosmic Kids Yoga training. Yoga for primary specialist.

Primary School Teaching experience. Currently a Lecturer at Stroud College in Early Years Learning.

Lucy’s Story:

I became really curious about yoga when I was working as a primary school teacher.  I noticed the delicious feeling I could experience when I was practising yoga myself and felt sure that I wanted to find a way to offer that to the children I taught.  I used Cosmic Kids in the classroom, and found that it provided magical offerings, but I was longing to feel able to tweak, adjust, and make the yoga a better fit for the unique variety of children I was teaching.  Now, I feel I have the knowledge to adapt and offer yoga to children with confidence and in all situations.  Yoga for little children is going to look different to what you might see in a traditional class, but I know that offering yoga to even the tiniest person, given with thought and creativity, has the capacity to have a profound and astounding impact on the small children we are so lucky to share our time with.

Yoga Strengths:

My teaching is focussed on supporting the littlest young people to develop the foundations of yoga, enabling them with tools to draw upon later in life.  My yoga sessions can be silly and serious, loud and quiet, but always deeply belonging to the children who I'm teaching.  For me, it's essential that the children feel that yoga belongs to them.  This is why my yoga sessions are co-created with the children, nurturing their creativity.

Interesting Facts:

I am the mother of a small child, which means you will find me in parks and woods over Gloucestershire - whatever the weather!  I love making things with my hands, and I always have at least one project on the go.  Currently, I'm working on a crochet rabbit, darning my dungarees and using crochet and embroidery to make a lion to put on a lovely jumper that my child was given for Christmas and for some reason hates!  I have high hopes that this lion will transform their feelings on the jumper!

Why are you passionate about being on the Shift Team?

My past experience as a primary school teacher, and current experience as a college teacher, gives me a deep understanding of the world of educators.  I love bringing this insight and expertise to the growth of the Shift team.  I know first hand, the huge toll that teaching can have on us, and the ripples it can make into our world beyond school.  This project offers something radical.  Training for you to teach children yoga, whilst also being deeply significant for you.  I've never known anything like it!  Training that can be rich for your children, whilst also having the possibility of being really transformative for you.  Our Ambassadors learn skills that they can apply to their lives, to support them to teach and live with more happiness, calm and confidence.  The ripples of this project can be huge, and it's an honour to support educators on this journey.
